MARIN Research
MARIN has studied all types of
maritime activities
, as well as the risks associated
with them, to develop methodologies and the MARIS
decision-support software to assist with
Search & Rescue
planning, coastal zone planning,
as well as several other application areas. MARIN has developed
a comprehensive database of many types of maritime traffic
including fishing, shipping, ferries, recreational boating,
and others. MARIS,
a GIS
-based program, was developed
by MARIN to simulate this traffic and assist in traffic
and
risk analysis.
As a result of this research, MARIN has
the capability to identify trends, spatial patterns, probability
and consequences of incidents,
and statistical analysis of risk factors related to different
types of maritime traffic.
