Survival Kit Air Droppable - The SKAD consists of one or two inflatable liferafts joined to one or two bundles of survival equipment by light, floatable polypropylene rope. The kit can be dropped from the Buffalo or Hercules by hand or automatically dropped like a bomb from various patrol or fighter aircraft. The automatic version is smaller and the drops less accurate than those dropped by hand. When the liferaft are thrown out of the airplane, a break-away lanyard activates a bottle of compressed CO2, inflating the raft as it drops.

Swash Plate - A baffle plate in a tank which prevents excessive surging of a liquid.

Syncrolift - A platform fitted with winches and anchor chain. The winches lower the platform into the water, the vessel is floated on and the platform is raised. Sometimes the vessel can be rolled to a repair station on railroad track.
