The information garnered from MARIN research can be used
in a variety of different ways. By understanding the seasonal
and geographical distributions of incidents, response
agencies (such as Search
and Rescue) can make operational decisions.
Dissection of traffic types and causes of incidents allows
policy makers to legislate and regulate particularly hazardous
situations. Other applications include studies into the
environmental impact of high volume traffic in sensitive
areas, such as whale breeding grounds, or sea bird habitats.
