Recreational Boating: Commercial

Commercial recreational boating is a dynamic industry
consisting of businesses that offer boat tours, charters
and rentals. Some common examples are whale-watching tours,
deep-sea fishing guided excursions, sightseeing kayak
tours, sailing charters, and canoe rentals. Prior to MARIN’s
research into this topic, virtually no information existed
regarding the amount, location and type of commercial
recreational boating in Canada.
The MARIN Group is working to quantify commercial recreational
boating activity in the Canadian Coast Guard’s
Search and Rescue
regions around Atlantic Canada and the St. Lawrence
Seaway, and to obtain information regarding the type
and amount of activity, and characteristics of the vessels.

In order to obtain this information, MARIN conducted a phone
survey of commercial recreational boating operations in
Atlantic Canada and in Quebec, along the St. Lawrence Seaway.
The figure below shows the port locations of the operations
that took part in the survey. |
