Ronald Pelot, Ph.D., P.Eng.
Dr. Ronald Pelot has been in Industrial
Engineering at Dalhousie University
since 1994. He obtained his
PhD in Management Sciences from the University of Waterloo
in 1990. His main interest is in Operations Research applied
to risk and resource analysis.
Dr. Pelot is the Principal Investigator
for the risk model of marine activities under development
for the Canadian
Coast Guard and the National
SAR Secretariat. The MARIS
software has been designed by Dr. Pelot and his research
group to facilitate spatial and risk analyses associated
with maritime traffic and incidents. He has also researched
risk in other areas, including contaminated site remediation,
and semi-intensive aquaculture production.
Dr. Pelot teaches courses in several
areas including Operations Research, Risk & Decision
Analysis, Human Factors Engineering, and Industrial Psychology.
In 1998 he won the DalTech Award for Teaching Excellence.
Dr. Pelot was president from 1997-1999
of the Atlantic section of the Canadian
Operational Research Society, and was awarded a CORS
National Service award in 2001. He is a member of INFORMS
and the Institute
for Industrial Engineers. He is currently serving
on the GEOIDE
NCE Research Management Committee, and is on the Oversight
Committee for WIRA.
He also holds a Professional Engineering designation.
