MARIS is a
GIS
program developed in the MARIN risk lab for the
Canadian Coast Guard.
MARIS is capable of displaying
various layers from the MARIN
risk model,
including
traffic,
incidents
and marine boundaries. In addition
to its display features, MARIS also has
built-in tools for analysis, and export of
layer
information.
Some of the analysis capabilities of MARIS
include:
- Selection of data based on
attributes
- Spatial selection of data based on marine boundaries
- Gridding of point and line data at various grid resolutions
- Calculation of gridded
incident
to traffic rates
- Generation of traffic lines from scheduled waypoints
(track generation)
-
Dispersion
modeling of “port to zone”
traffic
Potential uses of MARIS
include:
- Traffic generation/modeling
- Traffic/incident density analysis
- Traffic/incident type comparison
- Response travel distance calculation
- SAR
station placement assessment
MARIN has prepared many different traffic datasets for use in MARIS. In order
to present some of these features on the Web, we have
created a web-based mapping tool. This tool allows you to browse
different traffic datasets and view
traffic densities, and
traffic proportions
in the North West Atlantic Maritime environment. These maps are based on the
results of MARIS queries and are for demonstration purposes only.
