Interested in Collaborating? MARIN is always looking to for opportunities to collaborate with other government agencies, industry partners and researchers. MARIN has developed a comprehensive database of many types of maritime traffic including fishing, shipping, ferries, recreational boating, and others. MARIS, a GIS-based program, was developed by MARIN to simulate this traffic and assist in traffic and risk analysis. As a result of this research, MARIN has the capability to identify trends, spatial patterns, probability and consequences of incidents, and statistical analysis of risk factors related to different types of maritime traffic. Interested collaborators are welcome to contact Dr. Ronald Pelot for more information. | |
Two of MARIN’s major research initiatives have been conducted as GEOIDE projects, a Network of Centres of Excellence (NCE) on GEOmatics for Informed DEcisions. The Canadian Coast Guard has been the major sponsor for these undertakings. This project entitled “Marine Activity Geomatics and Risk Analysis in the Coastal Zone”, spanned two phases with GEOIDE reference numbers ENV#60 (Phase I) and ENV#PEL (Phase II) respectively. |
